Ranting: Clueless!

I am clueless about life. I don’t know where I want to go and what I want to do. It’s not like I don’t have goals in my life but most of the times I question myself is it worth it?

Apparently I look normal but  something is gnawing me deep inside which I have no clue of. This uncertainty is just melting away my vigor, my optimism in fact my whole being. I feel like a speck of dust in this immense universe who is useless, worthless and colossal failure.

Being clueless is not what I am proud of. I am not and I don’t know how it has crept into my system. Probably because I am far away from achieving my aim. Is it because of my fear or my habit of procrastination? I do know the answer but I don’t want to accept it.

I feel like my existence has no significance in this huge world

I am just a speck of dust in this immense universe

Every day is like a struggle for me

I am on a quest of nowhere

The self-realization is obscured under the burden of bafflement

Don’t know how long will it take me to find my path of self-discovery, my path of self-realization!

hopes and dreams to all those seekers who traveled to this place in hope to make it big in their lives. This city thrives on arts, literature, sports and music that epitomized the diversity of its inhabitants. As it’s also called city of lights, the reason behind its glow are those high-spirited individuals who believe in this city and has never ever given up regardless of how worse the situations become.

In truth, these individuals realize the worth of this city which has given them so much. Regardless of valuing fame or monetary benefits and abandoning this city in difficult times, they step ahead and instill a sense of ownership of this city. These individuals are the real jewels of the city whose passion and determination let them cross all hurdles. Their perseverance and optimism have played a vital role in rejuvenating the spirit of the wavering city.

Unfortunately, we as a nation are accustomed in forgetting our heroes and instead of being inspired by these individuals; we are greatly influenced by those who are in power. However, it is imperative to acknowledge such heroes who through their services have made significant contributions in the prosperity of the city. As Imran Aslam, the eminent journalist, through his book ‘Pride of Karachi’ said, “It is up to all of us. We must not abdicate our responsibilities to the city that has given us so much light.”

Commemorating 100 years for being a power supplier to Karachi, K-Electric through its ‘Pride of Karachi Awards’ ceremony has honored some of the remarkable individuals who worked up through challenging days in their lives. The purpose of awarding these individuals is to recognize their untiring efforts that drive them to move forward irrespective of any impediments found towards ascension. The awardees belong to different walks of life, broadly dividing into five major categories such as Leaders, Visionaries and Social Change Makers, Literature, Performing& Visual Arts, Arts& Architecture and Sports.

Beaming with delight, former cricket player known as original little Master Hanif Mohammad states, “KE award is a dream comes true. After years of spending a retired life, we are almost forgotten by this nation but I am so happy that KE remembers me for this honour.”

Another noteworthy personality, Abdul Sattar Edhi, a renowned philanthropist, expressed his gratitude on receiving the award and lauded the efforts of the company, while he remarked, “The initiative that KE has taken to recognize and also work towards bringing social change in the city is highly commendable.”

Seeing all these individuals, one may question that what is one common factor among all these extraordinary personalities that set them apart from others? The answer is simple; motivation to do something! KE’s endeavor to recognize and honor these amazing talents is just a way to pay back to the society. A former hockey player Anwer Ahmed Khan is of the opinion that such initiatives will also motivate many others to come forward and do their best for folks.

The relation of KE with the city is quite old; it gives light to the city which primarily founded the notion as ‘city of lights’. Along with the city, the power utility has also seen challenging days. By highlighting the success of these individuals, KE has not only fulfilled its social responsibility but also tries to be a change agent in the society.

Ridiculed for Standing Against Verbal Abuse

No More!

What happens when you finally voice out your opinion for the unbearable harassment that you have to face for around three months? You are ridiculed, you are blamed for having filth in your minds; you are indirectly under suspicion in everyone’s eyes and all this for what? Only because you stand for something and you do not want to endure anymore.

I  had worked in a private company that provides van service to the ladies; a facility which is a need of almost every working lady. I was the first one to be picked by the van driver, and as it is my first job so I did not have any idea of how to deal in professional way. Soon I realized that the van driver talked aimlessly without any reason with me. I tried to ignore even when he talked ill about some of the senior members of my office. I prefered to be quiet only because I knew by my experience in university that if you tried to complain of anything, it comes all on you.

This is the commonly practiced principle used over here. Later, he made the big issue of not greeting him and I quote his words: ‘If no one greets me so will not pick the person from next day even though if I have to leave the job (this is not the requirement to greet anyone), also he talks very rudely to me.’ I remained quiet and only shared with my mother because I had this presumption that if I did, no action would be taken or maybe it was my fear.

However later when I discussed with my other van colleagues, so I realized how wrong I was and therefore I and my other van fellows took a stand and we signed an application against the driver’s conduct. He was rebuked by the administration to which he took it personally and begun to misbehave with the van fellows. Next day, he took gals according to his wish and he did not even pick one girl from her home. It became unbearable, later we complained regarding this and we were told to compromise so we start the silent protest by not taking the facility of the van and took public bus instead.  Later, we found out that the company actually abandon the van facility not only ours but both vans.

This became a cooking topic for every other girl in the office. In the lunch time, girls from other van begun to blame us for the abolishment of the facility. I was appalled by the conduct of the women because indirectly they were targeting on our characters, which was not right. I soon realized that it’s not man, but woman is the actual enemy of other woman and by this, I have also witnessed it.
